When I started this business in 2012, I really didn’t know where it was going to take me. I just knew that I enjoyed bookkeeping, I was good at it, and a lot of people needed a good bookkeeper. As it happens, more people than I could take care of on my own. So, I found a few other people who like this line of work. We now have a team of very competent bookkeepers and an indispensable client support person. We work as a team, teaching each other new skills, sharing cute pictures of our pets, trading information, and supporting each other when our cars won’t start or we’ve locked ourselves out of the office (never happens to me!). Every business needs a bookkeeper, but most business owners don’t really love doing it. The kind of personality that makes a good bookkeeper (nerdy, has relationships with computers, gets a kick out of organizing stacks of paper), isn’t what makes a great entrepreneur (outgoing, ambitious, full of creative ideas). So, we make a great team with our clients. They get to spend their time doing what they are passionate about, and we get to live vicariously through them while we keep their books in order.

Since 2016 I have enjoyed being part of Katherine's growing team of bookkeepers serving local businesses with their financial records. Although I work with numbers, people are my main focus, and I enjoy listening to my clients in order to customize our service to their particular needs. Whether a business is construction, retail, or non-profit, being able to see the true picture of income and expenses is a necessary facet of success. I prepare payroll, monthly financial statements, bank reconciliations, bill paying, annual reports, or a mix of any of these. With my background in the fluctuating economies of retail and real estate, I am familiar with the importance of organization, customer service, and modern technology in assisting North Coast businesses to survive and thrive.

I moved from the Big Island of Hawai'i to Humboldt County in 2010, which was one of the best decisions I've ever made! I love the small community, beautiful redwoods, and the fact that it led me to my destiny of being a bookkeeper (even though it took me a while to figure that out). I absolutely love math, being organized, and I have learned so much from our awesome team of intelligent women! Although Humboldt County will always be near and dear to my heart, I have moved back to the Big Island in 2020 and I am proud to bring Solutions for Small Businesses' amazing services to my island home! Since we do all of our work online anyway, the Humboldt clients I work with don't even know I'm hundreds of miles away.

As a native of Humboldt County, I’ve had the pleasure of growing up in this wonderfully creative community. I have run my own 2 small businesses for the past 20 years, which provides me with an intimate knowledge of the joys and challenges of keeping a business healthy. As a Massage Therapy Practitioner, and Owner and Director of Pan Arts and Pan Dulce Steel Orchestra, I have especially enjoyed creating personal relationships and a sense of community with my clients and music students. Working with people, connecting them with resources and helping empower their dreams is very rewarding. I am proud to be a part of this team of smart, creative and thoughtful women at Solutions for Small Businesses, and to be able to assist our community of small businesses as they enhance the rich experience we all enjoy here in Humboldt.

As a graduate from Humboldt State University (Cal Poly Humboldt), with a bachelor's degree in Biology and Botany I developed a deep love for Humboldt County and its beautiful landscapes. I then became more involved with the community and developed many meaningful connections with local businesses working for the Arcata Chamber of Commerce for over 6 years. I have a deep appreciation for our unique local businesses and their role in making Humboldt such a special place. One of my roles at the Arcata Chamber was managing the bookkeeping, which utilized my organizational and math skills. It has been a pleasure to hone and further develop these skills with Katherine and the exceptional S4SB team. I come from a small town in the Sierra Nevadas and have been in Humboldt for over a decade. These rural areas have engendered a deep respect for place and the people who live there. I joined the team at Solutions for Small Businesses in 2022 when one of our bookkeepers was on maternity leave and soon found I was a natural at bookkeeping, and enjoyed the new skills I developed. I love being part of a village and serving others, and have found joy in supporting the many local businesses that make Humboldt so special.

When I moved to Humboldt County from Southern California in 2011, I instantly fell in love with the sense of community, adventure, and creative expression here. I love working with people and helping them succeed, which I have had the pleasure of doing through my work in education and mental health over the last 18 years. When I started at S4SB in May of 2023, I was looking for a creative way to continue serving my local community of Humboldt County. I’m thrilled to be utilizing my skills in different ways and I find great joy in helping small businesses thrive alongside this amazing team of bookkeepers!
